Tournaments
Every year Long Mynd archers organise a number of open (available to Archery G B members from other clubs) tournaments. These are:

Shropshire Archery society Heritage Shoot.
In addition we occasionally organise additional tournaments on behalf of Shropshire Archery society, e.g. county outdoor championships, Junior outdoor championships.

What is there to do
In the evening, why not take advantage of one of the many coffee shops, bars or restaurants, to relax and discuss the days shooting, or if you prefer, Shrewsbury is only 8 miles north, with its full range of amenities, including cinema and night clubs.
Heritage Shoot
The Heritage shoot is a “round robin” shoot between the clubs affiliated to Shropshire Archery Society. Each club takes a turn to organise a Heritage shoot throughout the outdoor season, with the results from each being combined to establish an overall winner.
The shoot consists of National rounds, and the round shot is dependent on your ability/ handicap, making this an ideal tournament for those new to the sport, who may struggle to reach the longer distances for their class.

Rules
Introduction:
Heritage shoots are designed to be a friendly and welcoming introduction to archery competitions and are open to all Shropshire archers. The Heritage is a National imperial round, with distances tailored to suit each archer’s ability.
Each Heritage Summer season features six competitions organised by clubs affiliated to the Shropshire Archery Society.
Trophies are awarded at the end of the season as follows:
- Historic Heritage trophies for Senior Open, Senior Female, Junior Open, Junior Female, and best
- Disabled Heritage trophies for Senior Open, Senior Female, Junior Open, and Junior
- Novice Heritage trophies for Senior and Junior Novice
All Heritage competitions are shot in accordance with the current Archery GB Rules of Shooting. As these competitions are non-record status, there is no requirement to appoint an official Archery GB Judge; however, the competition must be under the control of a nominated Field Captain. Archery GB Judges are more than welcome to run a competition, but this decision will be at the discretion of each individual club.
Historic Heritage Trophies
- At the conclusion of the Heritage season, Historic Heritage trophies are awarded to Senior Open, Senior Female, Junior Open, and Junior Female categories, along with a Team trophy.
- Awarded only to archers competing within the correct distance category (In Distance), relative to their handicap for Senior archers and age for Junior archers (see below: Archers Competing for Heritage Trophies).
- Individual trophies will be awarded based on a league table ranking achieved at the end of the Heritage
- Only scores shot In Distance will be included in the league table rankings and count toward the award of a Historic Heritage Archers must compete in a minimum of three Heritage competitions to be eligible for a trophy.
- League table rankings will be determined by the combined total of an archer’s best three Heritage competition scores from the Archers are free to participate in as many Heritage competitions as they wish, but only their top three scores will count toward the aggregate ranking.
- A disabled archer may choose to compete for either a Historic Heritage trophy or a Disabled Heritage trophy, but not both (see below: Archers Competing for Disabled Heritage Trophies).
- Heritage Team trophies will be awarded at the end of the season after completion of all final qualifying Team trophies will be based on:
- Recurve Total of 4 archers best scores
- Compound Total of 2 archers best scores
- Longbow Total of 2 archers best scores
- Barebow Total of 2 archers best scores
Archers Competing for Historic Heritage Trophies (In Distance)
Senior Archers (Aged 18+)
- Senior archers competing for the Historic Heritage trophies are required to have their current outdoor handicap (as verified by their club’s Records Officer) declared at the first entry to a Heritage competition whether it is the actual first in the series or a subsequent
- Any club organising a competition can ask for an archer’s handicap to be verified by the Records
Officer of their respective club.
- To provide for a transparent level of competitive fairness, Senior archers should shoot the distance category relative to their handicap achievement (In Distance). If the handicaps in the table below (or lower) are achieved by Senior archers, then the distance category to be entered is: Long National.

- The National distance is applicable to Senior archers with handicaps higher than the ones stated
- These rules do not apply to Junior archers, unless a Junior chooses to compete as a Senior (Note: A Junior wishing to shoot in a Senior round must pay the Senior fee).
Junior Archers (Under 18)
- The different distances shot by Junior archers, according to age, act as a handicap system, thereby making all Junior scores
- Junior archers should shoot the distance category (In Distance) relative to their age based on the table

- Junior archers may shoot at a distance lower than that prescribed for their age (Out of Distance); however, by doing so, they will not be eligible for a Junior Historic Heritage
Archers Competing for Disabled Heritage Trophies
- At the end of the Heritage season, Disabled Heritage trophies are awarded to Open and Female
- A disabled archer wishing to compete for Heritage trophies, must declare at their first competition, whether they wish to compete for a Historic or Disabled trophy, it will not be possible for an archer to compete in both
- To qualify for the Disabled category, an archer must be registered as disabled with Archery There will not be a requirement for the archer to disclose their disability.
- Disabled archers can compete in shorter distance National rounds should they feel their condition affects their ability to shoot in their age-appropriate
- A National 30 round is the shortest distance a disabled archer can shoot if they wish to compete for a trophy in the Disabled
- Heritage entry forms allow for archers to register in the Disabled category and to declare which
National round distance they will be shooting for the season.
- To qualify for a Disabled trophy an archer must submit scores, from a minimum of three completed rounds at their chosen National round These scores will be used to calculate their Heritage competition handicap.
- If a disabled archer participates in more than three competitions, their handicap will be calculated as the average of their three highest scores.
- There will be no requirement for a disabled archer to gain a handicap ahead of the Heritage season in which they choose to
- Disabled trophy winners: The overall category winner(s) will be determined by having the archers three best scores averaged to determine their Heritage season handicap, the archers with the lowest handicaps (by trophy category) will be the champion(s).
Archers Competing for Novice Heritage Trophies
- One Senior Novice trophy and one Junior Novice trophy will be awarded at the end of the Heritage season, regardless of gender, bow type or distance
- A Novice is defined as an archer who joined Archery GB for the first time within 24 months of the start of the first Heritage competition of the
- Novice archers must declare their current handicap (as verified by their club’s Records Officer) on
the entry form for every competition they enter.
- Awarded only to archers competing within the correct distance category (In Distance), relative to their handicap for Senior archers and age for Junior
- Novice trophies will be awarded based on Novice league table rankings achieved at the end of the Heritage
- Only scores shot In Distance will be included in the league table rankings and count toward the award of a Novice Archers must compete in a minimum of three Heritage competitions to be eligible for a Novice trophy.
- League table rankings for Novices will be determined by the archer’s combined best three adjusted scores from Heritage competitions in the season (an adjusted score is the archer’s actual score modified by a handicap allowance, allowing fair comparison between archers of different abilities).
- Novice archers may participate in as many Heritage competitions as they like, but only their top three adjusted scores will count toward the aggregate
Archers Not Competing for Trophies (Out of Distance)
- Any Shropshire archer can take part in any of the Heritage competitions and shoot at the National
round distance that they feel comfortable with.
- Archers shooting outside of their correct distance category (Out of Distance) and not classified as disabled, will NOT be eligible for end of season Heritage trophies.
- Archers shooting Out of Distance (excluding disabled archers) MUST declare their current handicap on the entry form for all the competitions they
- Senior archers shooting Out of Distance (excluding disabled archers) regardless of gender, age, round, or bow type, will compete together for medals using adjusted scores (an adjusted score is the archer’s actual score modified by a handicap allowance, allowing fair comparison between archers of different abilities). As a result, only one set of medals (1st, 2nd, and 3rd) will be awarded to all Senior Out of Distance participants at each
- Junior archers shooting Out of Distance (excluding disabled archers) regardless of gender, age, round, or bow type, will compete together for medals using adjusted scores (an adjusted score is the archer’s actual score modified by a handicap allowance, allowing fair comparison between archers of different abilities). As a result, only one set of medals (1st, 2nd, and 3rd) will be awarded to all Junior Out of Distance participants at each
- If an archer does not have or doesn’t declare their handicap, then the score they achieve will not be eligible for a
- If an archer wishes to change their distance part way through the Heritage season and compete In Distance for Heritage trophies, they must shoot a minimum of three competitions to enter qualifying
Individual Heritage Competition Club Medals
- Club medals will be issued at the individual Heritage
- For archers shooting In Distance, club medals will be awarded to 1st, 2ndand 3rdplaces in each category, g. Long National - Recurve Open.
- For archers shooting in the Disabled category, club medals will be awarded to 1st, 2ndand 3rdplaces in each category, g. National 30 - Compound Female Disabled.
- For archers shooting Out of Distance, at each competition one set of club medals (1st, 2nd, and 3rd) will be awarded to Senior participants and a separate set to Junior participants, as adjusted scores will be used to compare archers within each group across different ability
Visiting Archers
- Visitors are welcome to shoot at the invitation of the host but are not eligible for Heritage
- Medals may be awarded to visitors, but this is at the discretion of the host
- Shropshire archers must be given priority; visitors may only shoot provided there are spare
These rules will be reviewed at the end of the 2026 Heritage season

Event Format
Arrows will be shot in ends of 6 arrows in 4 minutes. There will be four archers per target. Compounds will shoot at individual 6 zone target faces.
All Bosses are layered foam.

Dress
Dress code is according to the AGB Rules of Shooting (307)
Drug testing
Archers competing at record status tournaments may be liable to drug testing. Competitors who are approached to give samples must comply. Non-compliance will be treated as a positive result.
Important information

Venue
The tournament will take place at our outdoor venue at New House Farm Church Stretton SY6 7JH
This is a working farm so NO PARKING on the lane please. There is a car park at the far end of the lane, equipment can be dropped off at the gate to the field prior to driving up to the car park.
Shooting
4 archers per boss. Two details. Arrows will be shot in ends of 6 in 4 minutes with timing control.
Music will be played through a P.A system during shooting.
Refreshments
Tea, coffee will be available also bacon sandwiches and jacket potatoes
Entry information
Entry is open to all ArcheryGB members and members of other World Archery Affiliated bodies.
Covid Regulation Compliance
You must ask yourself the following questions before attending
- Do you have a high temperature?
- Do you have a new, continuous cough?
- Do you have a loss of, or change to, your sense of smell or taste?
- Are you in a household with someone who has tested positive for Covid-19 in the past 10 days and you are not fully vaccinated?

Norman Alexander Memorial Shoot
Newbie Nationals 26
This years National Newbies shoot will take place on 17 May at Long Mynd Archers shooting ground at New House Farm in Church Stretton.
This competition is only open to members starting archery from 2024 onwards.
The Competition has been renamed the "Norman Alexander Memorial Shoot" in memory of Norman who was a member at Long Mynd for many years and who's passion was the introduction to Archery, and development of, new members- especially junior members.
Trophies have very kindly been donated by Norman's daughter Julie.
PLEASE NOTE: All trophies are the property of Long Mynd Archers and will be retained by LMA after the award ceremonies.
